Optimising Photographs and Images for the Web

jpeg/jpg files
These type of files are best used for photographs and images which contain gradients. Not the best format to use for flat blocks of colour, as you can sometimes get a ‘halo’ effect around the edges of contrasting colour. Jpeg technology has got better, it just means that you have to create a higher quality jpeg which in turn increases filesize. The colour pallet for jpegs is a lot higher, and you won’t get the grainy ‘pixelly’ effect that you get with gif images. Read more… »
